A FOSTERING TALE
A FOSTERING TALE – NELLY HBR volunteer and foster, Denise, shared the following heartwarming story about fostering Nelly: “Nelly was our 5th foster and came to us in March of 2018. A young boxer/bulldog mix, this lovable character made herself at home immediately. She claimed the male humans of the household as her own and was either sharing the couch with one of them or begging them to play. She was happiest being the center of attention. We established a routine that included a walk in the morning and playtime at the dog park in the evening. Nelly would let us know when it was time to go to the dog park. She planted her butt in front of you and grumbled until we said, “Okay, let’s go!”. She loved being social and meeting other humans and dogs alike. She was a great ambassador for Homeward Bound. We have fond memories of Nelly and our adventures that summer; playing at the beach, trips to the cottage and lots of hikes. On a cold day in fall, Nelly found her forever family. They traveled a long way to meet her and we knew it was the family we had been waiting for. Fostering is not for the faint of heart, you fall in love then have to say good bye. The memories you are left with are golden.”If you are interested in fostering with HBR, please visit our website and fill out an application! www.homewardboundrescue.ca
♡♡HAPPY TAILS: BETTY!!♡♡
♡♡HAPPY TAILS: BETTY!!♡♡Sidney and David adopted Betty from HBR just over a year ago. As she celebrates her first Gotcha Day, we checked in to see how she is doing! When asked what her favourite things to do are, the family replied: “Anything her brother is eating/doing. Giving hugs, helping me when I vacuum by trying to eat the vacuum whenever it moves. She also loves pushing her face against the windows right after I clean them.”Betty had no issues adjusting to her new home. She was a puppy and did regular puppy things. We asked Sidney if they had any advice to share with potential adopters. They replied: Take your time, waiting and being patient for the right fit is key. It will only benefit the animal and the adopters if this happens. “Betty was our missing puzzle piece. Thank you for all the work you do. We love her so much.”Thank you for choosing adoption and giving Betty a wonderful home!
