HI There! It’s JOVIE!!!! My name is Jovie and I am a 4 1/2 year old green-eyed American Bulldog/Mastiff mix.My favourite things are walk time, dinner time, and cuddle time. I am a total sweetheart and very affectionate with my foster humans. I love to get silly rolling around on the carpet and stretching out real long.I am super strong and athletic (my foster mom thinks I’d be great at agility), but content with a couple walks per day and a run in the yard. My ears do this adorable thing where they get stuck back when I run, because they are so floppy. I still have some work to do on my leash walking as I can get a little over stimulated when there is lots going on and forget to walk nicely. But my foster mom says I have made good progress and keep getting better as I get more acclimated to the sniffs, sights and sounds around me. I am a quick learner and love training time because I am very food motivated and enjoy any time spent with my humans. While at home I’m pretty easy going, quiet and happy to chill out and nap while my foster parents are working and doing other boring things. I follow my humans around the house and don’t like being left alone, but if you hang out with me for a bit while I chill in my crate I should be ok when you leave the house (though the pandemic has meant that my foster parents are usually around). I am house broken and sleep through the night in my crate without a peep, and though I prefer if the crate is near my humans I can probably learn to sleep on my own with a little patience. I enjoy meeting new people and am good with strangers, but it’s best to take it slow because I can be a little nervous. Spend a few minutes cuddling me or giving me treats and I’ll be your best gal. I do not have very good doggie social skills. I have had success making friends with slow introductions and distanced walks, but I am hyper stimulated when meeting dogs for the first time and don’t know how to play safe. I would do best in an environment without other dogs, or with an owner who is experienced in managing new relationships. I am apparently good with kids, but haven’t met too many.Did I mention how pretty I am? Oh yeah, I get complimented on my looks all the time, no big deal. Just one look into these green eyes and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
HAPPY TAILS: FREYA!
HAPPY TAILS: FREYA!!!!Carmen and family adopted FREYA from HBR just over a year ago! As she celebrates her Gotcha Day, we asked Carmen for an update on Freya! She provided the following: “Freya loves to wrestle with other dogs, and play keep-away with her humans. Freya also loves to eat ice. Freya regularly goes to doggy daycare and surprised us with her ability to swim. She has many dog friends at daycare and some dogs really really love her, but not all of them can swim. There is one particular dog that can occasionally get on Freya’s nerves. Instead of running away, Freya has learned the best way to get away from him is to go swimming, because unfortunately her friend can’t follow. She’s a heartbreaker! “When asked how she adapted to her new home, she advised: “It took her a few months to learn not to go potty inside the house. Very frustrating but we got there in the end. ”We asked if the family has any advice for potential adopters: “My biggest advice is to just be patient. Your new pup has likely already had many different experiences (good and bad) and they are now getting used to you, and your family. It may take them a bit of time to adjust and fully understand the new rules, but don’t take any difficulties personally. Keep consistent and be patient and you both will be better for it. We love Freya. She is such a sweetheart and we give a lot of credit to her foster family who had her before adoption. Keep up the great work HBR! ”Thank you for choosing adoption and giving Freya the best new family! We are so happy she is doing so well!
HAPPY TAILS: NOVA!!!
HAPPY TAILS: NOVA!!!!Bill and Tamara adopted NOVA from HBR just over a year ago! As she celebrates her first Gotcha Day, we checked in with her new family for an update! They provided the following: “Nova loves to play tug toy, she also loves to be outside at the beach, hiking or camping, she is a big mamas girl so if mom is doing it she will always join in! She loves to eat puppy ice cream cones and cheese! She really enjoys cuddling with her dog brother or parents! I have to start with she makes us laugh every day with her attitude, when she wants something she will do just about anything to get it! When I am in the shower (it is a tub not walk-in) and I’ll be washing my hair all of a sudden Nova hops over the edge, her belly slows her down and boom she face plants into the shower with me! The first time this happened it scared me but now I have to shut the door or she will join me as she LOVES her baths!!Nova did not have any problems adapting to her new home! We recently rescued a Rottweiler named Shadow and both are loving each other’s company! We are so blessed to have Nova in our lives. She brings us laughter and happiness every single day. Her bulldog personality is large and we will always adopt this breed! We didn’t just save her she was a missing part that our family needed! The process may seem long and that you will never be picked but when you do it is all worth it! Rescuing Nova was an easy process that we would happily do again. Thank you to HBR for making it so easy and enjoyable adding a new member to our family! “We are so happy to hear how well Nova is doing! Thank you for choosing adoption and giving Nova an amazing forever family!
