HAPPY TAILS: ROSA!!!!J.D. and Leisa adopted Rosa from HBR just over a year ago! As she celebrates her first gotcha day, we checked in to see how she is doing. Here is what her family shared with us: Favourite things: Rosa enjoys her walks, especially to see the crossing guard by the school who always has a treat for her and some back scratches. She very much enjoys lying in the sun on the window ledge behind the couch and watching the world go by, occasionally barking at dogs on the sidewalk. She’s very affectionate and loves to cuddle on the couch. She’s a fan of her food, and her treats, and is always angling for one. Story: As soon as Rosa arrived home and explored the house, she got up on the couch, put her paws up on the back and began surveying the view. That’s her favourite place to be. If she’s not there, she’s lying on the deck in the sun in the warm weather, or in her bed next to the heat vent in the cold weather. Adapting: there were zero issues at all adapting to her new home. She settled right in, and within a very short time, it was like she’d been here for ages. She has her routines and schedule, and lets us know when she’s ready for a walk or to play. She’s not a tremendous fan of the cold weather, which is a great thing for the late night and early morning walks. Rosa enjoys playing with other dogs, no matter how big they are she gets right in there and plays, then comes home and snores away for a good long while. Wisdom: give it time, every dog is different and comes from a different place. Not rushing the new arrival is critical. Once they’re feeling safe, and loved, they’ll find their groove and blossom into the perfect friend. Rosa had some separation anxiety when she first came home, but she got past it very quickly. She knows that when we go out, we’re coming back. Comments: HBR’s adoption process was thorough, sensitive and an end-to-end excellent process. It was readily apparent that the right fit was key. Rosa arrived in great shape and ready to settle in to our home. Since then she’s developed a true personality and attitude that shows she’s comfortable. She’s a great addition to the household. Since Rosa came home, we’ve met up with her foster (Kim) a couple of times, and they both love seeing one another. We are so happy to hear how great Rosa is doing! Thank you for choosing adoption!
